EDGE STRIPS OR EDGE STRIPS SERVE FOR?
To be placed between the wall and the screed. This makes expansion joints.
They also provide thermal and acoustic insulation, minimising cold bridges and sound transmission.
Is water-resistant due to its closed-cell structure.
MAIN FUNCTIONS
PREVENTING CRACKING
The floor must be able to expand and contract, especially with underfloor heating. An edge strip allows the floor to move without putting stress on the walls.
ACOUSTIC INSULATION
The edge strip interrupts the direct connection between floor and wall, reducing the transmission of impact sound and thus contributing to a quieter living environment.
THERMAL INSULATION
The material of the edge strip helps achieve thermal insulation, preventing cold bridges.
PROTECTION AGAINST MOISTURE
Many edge strips, such as those made of PE foam, are moisture-resistant and do not absorb water, which is important to protect the floor structure.
FIRE SAFETY
Some edge strips, especially those made of mineral wool, offer a fire-safe connection between floor and wall.
